Originally published in August 2017. As I look back with the advantage of three years of continual painting since this project, I can say with certainty that all painting is a struggle. Thinking of all of you, my virtual friends and followers, and wishing you good health.
I initially thought of this painting as “Another one bites the dust”. There are some paintings that just linger way too long in the art room, and this, my friends, is one of them.
She is not what she was supposed to be and I am ok with that.
When nothing is working, I grab trusted pencils and acrylics to try and save a painting from being trashed. I am ok with that too. See? I am learning acceptance through my frustrations with art!
So here she is, finally completed. I breathe a sigh of relief, and move on to my next project.

Ophelia – “The last dream of my soul”. Mixed media on watercolour paper. Watercolours, acrylics, Inktense pencils, acrylic ink, and Neocolor II crayons.
This painting is the second one inspired by Katrina Koltes. I was intrigued by the methods used by this artist who paints such ethereal watercolour scenes. I found out that she makes her technique look easy but it will take me some time before I master her methods.
However, after using pretty much any and all supplies I could throw at the paper, an Ophelia looking woman finally appeared in all colours.
This is another painting that taught me not to give up. Even when the going was rough and it looked like nothing good would ever come from my efforts, I persevered.
I can only surmise that whenever an artist is trying something new, there will be a struggle. Similarly, if an artist paints the same subject with the same techniques, then I suppose there is less or no struggle (ha!) but then, no learning either.
