The beach is the place to begin the new year.

We have sunshine, warm, soft sand, the soothing sounds of the waves as they caress the shoreline, and the smell of the sea mixed with coconut scented sunscreen.  Every now and then, we catch a whiff  from one of the barbecues at the beach restaurants. In the distance, we can hear the muffled sounds of music. It's been since Covid that we haven't travelled as a family and everyone missed this one week distraction from our routines.

For the moment, we are totally immersed in the beach scene…the swaying palm fronds, the light blue sky contrasted with the warm sand.

Enjoying family togetherness.

"Life isn't a matter of milestones, but of moments" Rose Kennedy.

During our time together we forget about deadlines, appointments, school, and just allow ourselves to be lazy beach bums.

By far, the best part of the holidays is the time we spend creating memories with loved ones. No one remembers gifts we bought over the years, but everyone remembers holidays we spent together on the beach.

All our other similar family holidays were in Mexico. See Parting shots of a beach holiday or sketches on the beach. This year, we will be in Punta Cana.

"Time is free, but it's priceless.  You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it, you can never get it back." Harvey MacKay.

  • It is nice to have those moments where we can let go of all of life’s daily responsibilities. I really enjoy the light in your painting and the scene seems to invite me into a beautiful get away!

    • Being with the family is the best part of our beach holidays. Thank you Catherine for taking the time to leave a comment.

  • I know much these holidays with family are treasured. When our children were younger, every year we would head north to a town on the border called Mildura. The fun that was had, the friends made are still talked about to this day. By the way, I love that painting…

    • I was attempting to be loose with my strokes and not get bogged down in details. The painting is sitting on the piano where I can see it in the morning while drinking my coffee. It does remind me of our holiday. Thanks Sally.
