Inspiration found in flower fields visited last year.

I am inspired by last year’s dazzling blooms in the flower fields at Green Corners in Edwards, Ontario. In my paintings, I imagine clear skies similar to the day we visited the farm. I picked a dozen different coloured tulips and shared half with a neighbour.

The flowers growing row upon row in my paintings might be any combination you might dream up…perhaps tulips are blooming next to delphiniums next to lilies…who knows?

All I know is I like all the colours growing at the foothills of the mountains and the golden fields in the background. While we do not have lavender fields in this area, but I can always imagine what one might look like.

Lavender Fever is painted on a small 4 x 4" canvas with deep 1.5" painted sides.

The other fields of flowers are 4 x 6 canvases. All are available. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing.

Last year, we visited Green Corners Farm in Edwards, Ontario.

Green Corners is Ottawa’s largest you pick flower farm. This is one special farm! Imagine long rows of pink, then white, then yellow tulips all standing at attention. Which to choose?

Last year I picked tulips that hadn’t quite opened yet and they lasted a long time in a water-filled vase. But tulips are not the only flowers they grow…visitors can also enjoy zinnias, marigolds, sunflowers, and many more flowers all through the summer into fall. It is a very busy place but there is lots of parking available. The owners  have created little vignettes with painted bikes, garden benches, archways, etc. where you may take photographs.

Fields of Gold, Monkland, Ontario

You are invited to stroll through the fields of golden sunflowers, take photographs, and bring home a fresh bouquet towards the end of July to end of August.

Wilmead Farms, Cumberland, Ontario.

There are no trails but you can still get good photos just from the side of the road. And people do park and take loads of photos! While this is not a fresh pick flower farm, the family does sell sunflower seeds and honey from their fields.

Although there are no flowers to pick on this farm, I include it because it is a lovely, quiet place to have a picnic, to enjoy native flowers, fruits trees. But best of all, everyone hopes to time a visit to see monarch butterflies...

Each Summer, we anxiously await the arrival of our first monarch caterpillar to the property. We keep our eyes peeled for butterflies and begin our hunt in some nearby hay fields that are full of fresh milkweed plants.  Each year is different, and we cannot accurately predict how many we will find.

We always end our visit with a stop in their little store where one might buy homemade soaps and candles and other local items. This is a place we have visited several times.
