Sailing on a Summer Breeze – peaceful, inspiring.

From beautiful sunsets to glittering blue water, there are many songs that evoke the pleasures (and disasters) that can happen at sea. Stormy waters are often used as metaphors for troubled times. For example, “Wooden Ships” is all about the end of the world after a nuclear attack.

Or sailing in general can evoke ideas of homesickness, a longing for a place that never existed, or for a specific time gone by.

For this post, the poet in me searched for lyrics that describe the freedom of sailing away from all the cares and concerns of the world. They seem like a fitting way to forget the darkness of this summer of extreme heat, of overwhelming fires, and the horrific images of war.

Castaway by Zac Brown Band.

I wanna be a castaway and leave the world behind

Take a tropic holiday, say goodbye to keeping time

Wasting away down by the coast

Pacifico and chasing line

Easy living down in paradise…

Sailing My Boat (Sail Song for Kids) Lingokids

Sailing my boat over the deep blue sea

Sailing my boat, all the islands we’ll see

Sailing my boat look at the big palm tree

Sailing my boat

I want to sail away…

Into the Mystic by Van Morrison (a classic)

We were born before the wind

Also, younger than the sun

‘Ere the bonnie boat was won

As we sailed into the mystic

Hark now, hear the sailors cry

Smell the sea and feel the sky

Let your soul and spirit fly

Into the mystic.

Sail Into the Sun by Gentlemen Hall

I’ll make the clouds a carpet and canopy

Won’t touch the ground

I’ll stay up here just you and me

And I, I’ll pull you closer when you’re floating away

And I, don’t need no reason we’ll just get away

And we sail into the sun, into the sun

Sail into the sun, into the sun

    • It has been a long while since I have visited the seashore Birgit. But these little paintings were lots of fun to create. Thank you for your kind words.

  • Lovely artistic reflections of soothing summer scenes, of sailing on vibrant, peaceful waters. I also enjoy the lyrics you’ve included, especially Into the Mystic – one of my favorites by Van Morrison. Have a splendid summer, Louise!

    • Enjoy your summer outings in search of areas to photograph and thanks for stopping by Phil.
