A Pug waddles through life.
Boone, the Pug, waddles through life, a furry meatball on chunky sticks, snorting like a sputtering lawnmower.
His greatest talent you ask?
Dramatic sighs. Boone can sigh with disdain just because you moved his blanket a few inches to the left.
What are his hobbies?
Well, he loves to judge your life choices from the couch, snorting and snuffling as you go about your daily activities, farting audibly when visitors come to call, and pretending he doesn’t understand basic commands—unless treats are involved.
On a recent Saturday morning, Boone was sunbathing in the backyard, belly up, no doubt dreaming of soft tummy rubs, and snoring like a lawnmower that had seen better days.
Yes, for Boone, life was good as the sun warmed his exposed belly. The birds were keeping a respectful distance. Then he appeared.
A squirrel!
Right there. In Boone’s yard! The AUDACITY!
Boone opened one eye, saw the target, and immediately entered “combat mode.”
He rolled over as fast as his drumstick legs could go (admittedly, not very fast), attempted to shift his body weight to standing position, and then launched into a high-speed pursuit, which for a Pug like Boone amounted to a brisk waddle. Then, he suddenly veered right distracted by a dandelion. Meanwhile, the squirrel had long vacated the property, expertly climbing a tree limb and disappearing into the yard next door.
Seemingly, Boone decided anything, whether it be a squirrel or a flower, was just too much effort on such a hot day. He retreated to the cool grass under the maple tree.
Now and then, he barked just as a warning while remaining alert for that annoying squirrel.
Of course he had to show his owners that he deserved all the treats that came his way as he ambled slowly back to the house later that day.
He may not be fast or for that matter, particularly intelligent, but he seems to have enough charm to convince his owners he is worth keeping!
About Boone, the Pug’s painting.
Painted in acrylics on a 9 x 12” cradle board with 1.5” sides, Boone was a commissioned Father’s Day gift. The client gave minimal instructions saying she wanted a somewhat realistic portrait.
The client also bought Figaro, the cat for a cousin. Most of the uncommissioned works I publish on my website are available for sale.

Contact me here with any questions. I would love to hear from you. You may also leave a message in the comment box below.
For now, I am reducing the number of commissions that I accept. If you have already been placed on my list for commissioned pet portraits, I have not forgotten you. I will be starting up soon and be able to contact you to confirm your order before I begin your particular pet portrait.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank all my clients, past and present.🥰
This is so cute! I love the story behind the painting and being able to hear a bit about Boone’s personality. I was smiling the whole time! Catherine
I enjoy hearing the stories people tell me about their pets and then embellishing them. Thanks Catherine.
