Halloween decorations in Bourget old train trail.
Each year, the park along an old train track trail is transformed into a spooky wonderland by someone who is very creative indeed.
Using lots of caution tape, styrofoam, caution tape, and probably lots of dollar store purchases, the pagoda is made to feel very eerie. For us, the park is just a beautiful place for a long fall walk with Rosie.
The park itself is a canvas of changing colours. A few weeks ago, the leaves were once bright with crimson, gold, orange, but now are fading to soft tones. Today, a gentle breeze sends the leaves spinning and fluttering down to the path. Under our feet, the leaves crunch in layers of rust and brown. Hubby said he could smell the decaying organic materials as the gusts of air whipped up the scent of the earth.
Today the bare branches at the top of the trees stretched themselves towards a beautiful blue sky; however, as the afternoon wore on, the clouds moved in. The sky quickly shifted to steel grey and it was time to go home.
Amid the decorations, the falling leaves, there is magic...and a quiet reminder that winter is not so far away.
See October's party is Over...and Gloomy November is on standby. in 2023, I wrote about the Halloween decorations and about the trail in Bourget, Ontario. This area is a favourite place for walking and biking and seeing the change of seasons.

Dear LOuise, thank you very much for these beautiful impressions of Halloween in Canada. In Germany there isn’t so much Halloween decoration. This is more in the cities or supermarkets. Germany is a country of Christmas decorations. We love this!!!! Have a nice week dear friend.
I remember the markets that were just beginning to appear when we travelled through cities on the Rhine. I love that this is something we are borrowing from you. More and more, we hear of Christmas markets here even in small towns where local artisans and artists sell their unique handcrafted items. A magical time of year in Germany for sure!
It’s amazing how people just love these celebrations over your way. NZ picked up on Halloween in more recent times, but families are going all out with their decorations in our neighbourhood this year.
Halloween in Canada has become a holiday that is planned months in advance (in some cases) as people outdo each other with gigantic lawn ornaments, lights, sounds…No longer is it sufficient to carve a few pumpkins and place them on the porch – now there are monsters, skeletons as tall as the two storey home itself, huge glowing spiders on the roof, etc. quite a spectacle for kids and adults alike.
Isn’t it great that someone has taken the time to do this and everyone is enjoying it, rather than like here some idiot would probably destroy it.
I haven’t seen evidence of vandalism when we have visited in the past. Someone decorates at Halloween and then at Christmas. This path is in a very small town 15 minutes by car from our own town and kids come to this area with other kids to motorbike or with friends in winter to ski do. We have vandalism in other areas. Have a great week Sally.
