Painted hearts and flowers for Valentine's Day.

Heart cut outs of failed art work.

Painted hearts and flowers are sincere reminders that both can be enjoyed together on Valentine’s Day. Why else would Hallmark cards often feature one (flowers), with the other (hearts) on Valentine’s Day?

Hearts painted on cards or cut outs from old art work.

A Valentine’s Day garden of affection is made of heart cut outs from works of art that didn’t quite turn out the way I expected.  That happens more often than you might think which is the reason I have a good stash of watercolour paintings, all floral, waiting to be reused in some way. Art, much like love, is never flawless.

These hearts are painted in mixed media and are all sold. I use various tools and paint rather intuitively and let the paint flow where it wants to go and see what develops. I might coax a bit here and there to get desired results. Then, with a frame, I find the prettiest section to cut out and give a place of honour in lucite.

I like these watercolour cards for mixed media and watercolour.

The paper also takes collage very well.

Finally, flowers are always enjoyed just by themselves as in these bouquets.
