Blue-Eyed Fluffy Mutt is recent portrait commission.

In November last year I was contacted by Doobie’s owner to paint Doobie as a surprise Christmas gift. As I was too busy to take on another commission, I suggested that I could add the client’s name to my waiting list for the new year.

Fortunately, the client agreed and decided to gift the portrait for her wife’s birthday in April.

Doobie is painted in a contemporary style with textured white strokes to emphasize her wild look.  Her owner says that Doobie is nearing the end of her life and that the portrait is a perfect way to memorialize her.

Contemporary pet portrait by Ottawa area artist, Louise Primeau.

The portrait is on a gallery wrapped 5 x 5 canvas with 1.5” sides that are painted to match the front.  This is a painting that can easily sit on a desk or a mantel.

Dogs are special because…

“Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made. ” – Roger A. Caras

“In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn’t merely try to train him to be semi human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog.”  – Edward Hoagland

“Dogs come into out lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog. It merely expands the heart.” – Author Unknown

“When an 85 pound mammal licks your tears away, and then tries to sit on your lap, it’s hard to feel sad.” – Kristan Higgins

“You know, a dog can snap you out of any kind of bad mood that you’re in faster than you can think of.” – Jill Abramson
