Boo is a very colourful white cat!

Finally, I have another cat to add to my pet portrait portfolio after painting so many pooches last year!  I love painting dogs, but I was wondering where all the cat owners were hiding! I hadn’t painted cats since January 2020 when I painted Tigger and Sydney.

A local client did send me a commission for two portraits: I painted Shady, her dog, in August 2020.

At the same time, she had emailed several excellent photos of Boo, her sister’s white cat, and I was able to choose whichever I wanted as a reference photo. I especially love Boo's patient stance in this photo. The lavender, turquoise, and blue were suggested colours within her fur. (really!)

Client Feedback on Facebook.

"Louise, once again you produced a beautiful portrait, this time of our family cat, Boo. The colours were bold and bright to contrast her pure white coat. You gave us a memory to cherish forever."

All art work starts rather messy looking and Boo wasn't an exception. Each painting goes through a stage where I often wonder if I can pull the precious pet out of the ugliness. Most times, I am successful. Sometimes, I am not and it is a do-over. This process applies to all art. Determination and persistence eventually pay off.

Boo is painted on 9 x 12 watercolour paper and sold with a white matte.  The client said she would buy a white frame for this portrait which was a Christmas gift for her sister.

Acrylics love watercolour paper. The painting is varnished just like a portrait on canvas and will be well protected from dust and air within a frame.

I had some leftover paint on my palette and I used it to start a new painting Ode to Summer (2020).

Some very contemporary portraits of pets I painted in the last few years. I love painting with bold colours but I always listen to the client. Sometimes, the client will allow me to paint the pet in whichever style I wish. Visit my portfolio to view all pet portraits some more traditional than the ones shown here.
