Last 2020 Commission Reveal - Wood Slice.

We are already one week into the new year and I am still looking back to commissions in 2020. Please indulge me a few more times. I had several requests for pet portraits on wood slices in the last weeks before Christmas including some secret gifts I was asked not to reveal until 2021.

Digby was one secret gift picked up a few days before Christmas.

Ta Da...here's Digby!

Digby on wood slice
Digby, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, on wood slice.

Digby is painted on Canadian birch sourced from an Ontario supplier. The wood is kiln dried and measures approximately 3 inches in diameter.

Once the portrait is completed, the slice  is then varnished, usually with a high gloss varnish to brighten the colours. Even though I am painting on wood, I still use the very best acrylics, Liquitex or Golden Fluid or Heavy Body acrylics for each commission.

I will soon publish a lovely white cat I painted last fall for a client who ordered her Christmas gifts early. Be on the lookout for Boo!

Also coming up, another pet portrait finished before the end of the 2020 for a repeat client who loves Schapendoes or Dutch Sheepdogs.

One year in art...

I love painting florals and a few pieces are available for sale.  If you see anything you like, do contact me. No obligation whatsoever! In truth, my studio is starting to look like a hoarder's hideout. 😳

Looking ahead in 2021.

Already I have several commissions in the works for 2021, some on canvas, and others on wood slices. If you would like a portrait painted by me, please contact me here and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  As of publication date of this post, I will have work until March or April but I can fit in wood slice portraits in between the larger commissions.

Giveaways in 2021.

I have one giveaway for On the Wings of a Dove and the winning name will be drawn tomorrow, January 8, at 8 pm EST. You must leave a comment under the painting either on Instagram or on Facebook to be eligible.

Or leave a message below in the comment box if you would like your name to be entered.  The portrait will be mailed flat along with a matte so it is ready for framing.

Also, subscribe to my newsletters and you will be alerted to other giveaways and discounts. Presently, I have one FREE PET PORTRAIT to give away to a subscriber to my newsletter.  Subscribe here!

Wishing you all happiness and good health in 2021!

  • Wow! Each painting is amazing! You were very creative in 2020! I so love your pet portraits and the colors you use, you are very talented. Cheers to another creative year in 2021 – can you believe we are almost a quarter way through the year? 😃🌈🎨

    • Thanks Jill. Kind of incredible the way time flies even when we are housebound. It’s been such a strange time – art helps maintain a sort of continuity and normalcy in spite of the pandemic.

  • Wow Louise, once all your paintings have been put together one realises just how busy you have been. You do do a fabulous job of everyone’s pets ❤️

    • Sally, I saw another artist who had made a collage of all her art work and thought it was a great idea because it does show all the work accomplished in a year. I think I will do this from now on. She also told me of an app so that I can post something similar to Instagram. I might play around with that when I have a bit of time. I feel I have learned a lot with my work but still have far to go. All the very best to you and Les!
