Black Lab Ziggy: Memorial Portrait Details.
Ziggy’s memorial portrait for the client’s daughter celebrates the great family pet that Ziggy, the Black Lab was. He was a playful companion to Hunter, the German Shepherd as well.
Ziggy arrived in Maryland, USA in March. He was painted in acrylic on a 10 x 10” gallery wrapped canvas and in consultation with the client, we decided that the face and eyes would be the entire focus on the canvas.
From the photos I received, it is obvious that Ziggy enjoyed life. Whether he was swimming in the nearby pond, playing fetch, cuddling to his humans, Ziggy was a well-loved family pet.
Memorial portraits are a loving tribute to loyal fur companions.
I am always honoured to be chosen to paint a special four-legged family member. Most especially, I love capturing "a look" in consultation with the client. Our pets are with us for such a short time, and a memorial portrait is a lasting impression of a special friend. Contact me to have your fur baby painted on canvas, paper, or on a wood slice.
Below, a few memorial portraits I have painted over the years. Most are commissions while a few are gifts. Each pet is sorely missed.
Maybe the reason of why I love animals so much, is because the only time they have broken my heart is when theirs has stopped beating. - author unknown.
You always capture the animals expressions brilliantly Louise.and those eyes 🤗👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Sally. Over time, I keep learning new tricks, much like the dogs I paint! Haha…
I really like the perspective used. And the little pops of orange offset Ziggy’s black coat beautifully.
Thank you Vivienne. Each painting presents its own set of challenges! The orange you are seeing is actually a coppery gold which was suggested by another artist. As the dog took up most of the canvas, a little bit of flashy gold was just what was needed with the black fur.Cheers!
