This puppy is delivered in time for Christmas.
The client did not want me to publish the name of this sweetie. She says she has relatives in the area and hopes to surprise the recipient on Christmas day with this special gift.
As you can tell by the dog’s face, he is a very gentle eleven-year-old dog, so not a puppy at all. But I think of all dogs as puppies. After all, they all exhibit some puppy traits every now and then, even when they are older.
The client says this adorable dog will never snap the treat away, but is very careful to remove it gently when it is offered to him. However, this gentleness does not extend to his toys. He destroys them after only a few days and then regrets their loss. It takes very little to amuse him…a favourite trick to get him going is to shine a laser beam on the wall and watch him get all excited as he tries to catch it.
Painted in acrylics on a 3” wood slice, this sweet face will surely be a wonderful surprise for someone special on Christmas morning.
Busy fall leading to Christmas.
Although I have considerably reduced my social media time this fall, it doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. Commissions started arriving in late September.
I accept limited number of commissions for several reasons. First, I am in a choir and fall is a busy time preparing for our yearly Christmas concert. Also, I never take so many commissions that I can’t find time for my other activities. Having said that, I do have a waiting list for 2025. Contact me here to add your name to my waiting list.
After Christmas I will be able to post some of my other completed Christmas commissions. I already posted the nature-themed commissions delivered in November.
Finally, below is the first commission for 2025.
The client agreed to wait until the new year for her 8 x 10 portrait of her Biewer (same breed as my Rosie). She wants a contemporary portrait (my favourite kind) much like the one I painted of Sophie with a blue background, “true to life”.
After several coats of black and white gesso, I outlined the dog in light paint and then started adding the values to help me as I move along later.

Hi Louise, both of those dogs are wonderful, but I particularly like the version of the Biewer. I bet both clients are extremely happy.
There are no complaints Sally. The Biewer is still in the early stages but I have a very good idea of what the client is hoping for in the final product. Thank you for leaving a message. Enjoy the rest of the week.
I feel certain this dog painting will be a big surprise under the Christmas tree. Dear Louise I admire your art to paint dogs, cats and other animals. My highest respect dear friend!!!!
Thank you Birgit for your encouraging words!
I’m So excited!! I love how this is coming together. It’s very special. Thank you so much. 🥰
Love this saying ❤️🐾

I really liked that quote too. Sometimes I search a little too long for just the right quote that speaks to me in that particular moment. I am looking forward to working on it now that I have a little more time to spend on my art. Cheers from the Ottawa area!
