Sea Kissing Shore - Remembering holidays by the water.
Painting a bird's eye view of a seashore was a refreshing and meditative experience. Consequently, the title was easy to find which is not often the case with my paintings.
I have been to many shores over time: Cape May and the Jersey Shore, several Caribbean shores, the black volcanic shore of Santorini, Costa del Sol, Croatia, Morocco, Maui, and Italy to name a few.
The feelings evoked by the painting.
There is nothing like the smell of the sea is there? The salty air, the fresh breeze, the warm sand…I tried to capture that feeling in my painting and I am very pleased with the effect.
How many times have I watched the waves come and kiss the shore? I have taken so many photos that it was easy to imagine the feeling of the gentle or in contrast, turbulent waves roaring to shore.
The details of the painting.
This is an acrylic painting on a 6 x 24” wood cradle panel which was prepped with two coats of Golden GAC to prevent any knots from bleeding through the painting. Next, I gave the painting two coats of white gesso. Finally, I started the application of colour.
I didn’t like the first version so I painted over it, hence the texture you can see in the close up photos.
Over the years I have been honing by art, I have come to believe that most paintings benefit from a few failures underneath the final version.
Once I was happy with the painting, I added little touches of glitter in the waves which are difficult to see in the photos.
It might be accurate to say that I have an obsession with waves and the sea. When I look back, I can see that I have painted the sea and photographed it many times in one way or another.
So now I add another seascape to my portfolio.

Which is your favourite holiday spot by the sea? (Maui gets my vote).
Hi Louise, I love the concept of painting from the sky. You have captured this beautifully
This is art for my home. I am in the middle of making a few pieces for myself, something I don’t often have time to do. Thanks Sally.
Nice use of texture.
Thanks Vivienne.
