Biewer Eden in colourful, contemporary style.

Eden contemporary portrait by Louise Primeau.
Eden. Acrylic on 8 x 10 gallery wrapped canvas.

As you may know, I love painting pets and whenever I am allowed to add lots of colour, I do a happy dance!

So I was very excited to paint Eden when her owner sent me an email in October last year. I thought this would be a good opportunity to get to know another Biewer. The client wanted her portrait “true to life yet artful”. I gave her examples from my website and she chose a portrait of Sophie I had painted as a model of what she might want. She specified she wanted a blue background.

Lovable Eden is second Biewer portrait.

I am quite familiar with Biewers since Rosie, our own Biewer, has been with us for almost four years. A few years ago, I painted a sibling of hers who is in Toronto.

Contemporary Realism Portrait of Eden.

I had a very clear idea of the type of portrait the client wanted as she had referred to my portrait of Sophie, a Maltese that was our third dog. The client specified she wanted the portrait on an 8 x 10 canvas.

In order to capture Eden's youthful energy, I decided to go with very vibrant colours. I chose bold oranges, blues, pinks allowing for a pop art type of feel to the work. The playful, imaginative colours, a departure from the more realistic colours we see in the fur, is my favourite way to creatively portray pets.

As usual, I was in contact with the client via email so that there were no surprises as I progressed. Starting during the Christmas holidays, I finished the portrait in early January.

The client writes about her little companion.

Eden’s owner writes that Eden was born in 2019. She adds:

“We found this breed after our beloved Yorkie, Jingles, passed away on August 15 2019 when she was nearly 15 year old. I was heartbroken.  I wanted another Yorkie

but not a dog who would look just like her. Jings, was special in her own way. On the internet I somehow came across the Biewer Terrier.

Eden loves squeaky toys, but most of all, balls. The reference photo this art was painted from was taken during some ball playing at our trailer in Fenelon Falls, Ontario.

You have captured her playfulness, spunk and mischievous personality perfectly.

Eden is quite the cuddler: she loves to sit with her body touching ours on the couch or on my hubby’s chair.  When she has had enough, she moves to her fluffy bed. But in the evening 7- 9pm (or so) it’s time for zoomies and play. If Eden wants something she will just sit and stare at you - for example, at bed time - she’s like ok let’s goooooooo!

Eden loves people more than pups even though she goes to daycare 3 times a week to be with other dogs and to socialize. She tends to follow around the humans more than her pup friends.  She loves walks and finds it fun to sniff around at the wondrous scents that surround us.

We love her so much and this beautiful art will be forever cherished."

I accept a limited number of commissions. Add your name to my waiting list.  Contact me here. I would love to hear from you.

On Meta (facebook) I am in several Biewer groups. The client says she found me because she too, is in a Biewer dog group.
